Bardhyl LONDO
BIOGRAPHY

Bardhyl Londo (b. 1948) from Lipa near Përmet built
up a reputation as a leading Albanian poet in the eighties. He
studied language and literature at the University of Tirana,
taught school for some years in his native district of Përmet
and later worked for the literary journal Drita.
He also served as president of the Albanian Union of Writers
and Artists until February 1998. He is the author of eight poetry
collections from 1975 to 1996. Londo's lyrics depart from the
concrete: details and moments of existence which he has experienced,
lived through intensely, and transformed into verse in a controlled,
erudite manner. His poetry, which is written in standard meters
and is mostly rhymed, melodiously echoes the rich traditions
of Tosk verse. In 1989, he was awarded the Migjeni prize. |
