Jamarber MARKO
BIOGRAPHY

Jamarber Marko (1951-) was born in Tirana, son of the noted
prose writer Petro Marko and his wife, the painter Safo Marko.
He finished his studies of journalism in 1974 and began writing
verse, though he was not allowed to publish during the Communist
regime. Marko spent seven years of his life in prison for insulting
the figure of the Albanian dictator, Enver Hoxha. Thereafter
he was forced to work as a simple porter and is now unemployed,
as the result of an accident. His poetry was first published
in the 1990s by Fatos Lubonja, and he has recently been the recipient
of national awards.
Jamarber Marko is the author of two verse collections: Rastësisht
me dashje (Coincidentally on Purpose), Tirana 1995; and Pro
nobis (Pro nobis), Tirana 2001. |
